Free asset unity10/21/2023 This is not an accident either, as when I mentioned my concerns/issues about MW in a discord, the author showed up and actually tried to shame me by finding an old picture I had posted of my game, and decided to try and point all the ways he thought it was bad. It's not a workflow that has been tested alongside other Unity assets. Because some of the placement features require you to use IR objects and not a GameObject. So if you're using one of the major vegetation renderers like Nature Renderer and GPU Instancer, then you're going to have a hard time. The placer is solid, but it relies on its own ecosystem of Instant Renderer. Going forward in 2023, I can't recommend Mega World. Now the full version is in some strange free zone with discord participation?Īll those things sound fun when you aren't needing a rock-solid and professional tool for a game you are actively trying to release. Which is fine to have those stances, but doesn't help when the program itself still has much work to do. The problem is that the updates became extremely slow, and if you mentioned it, you'd get an ear full about how the author feels about selling his product and such. But then it was removed and put on Patreon. The other half of MW, like Instant Renderer, used to be in the store. That's mainly because the author seems intent on trying to create everything themselves rather than embrace the Unity ecosystem. MegaWorld is free now, which is appropriate because some of the overall decisions made for this asset are more in line with a hobbyist workflow. And if it would be a handy tool but the creator has chosen a strange path going forward. It's for painting textures and placing gameobjects in the scene.
